Punjab Kings (PBKS) delivered a commanding all-round performance to secure a dominant 8-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 13 of TATA IPL 2025. A clinical bowling effort restricted LSG to 171/7, setting the stage for a flawless run chase. Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34), captain Shreyas Iyer (52* off 30), and Nehal Wadhera (43* off 25) spearheaded PBKS’ batting onslaught, ensuring they remained unbeaten in the tournament.

Punjab Kings’ Dominant Chase
Chasing a target of 172, PBKS had a steady but cautious start. However, an early setback came when Priyansh Arya fell for 8 (9) to Digvesh Rathi. Despite the early loss, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer took charge, turning the powerplay into an aggressive display of stroke-making. PBKS reached 62/1 after six overs, with Prabhsimran showcasing his explosive batting prowess.
LSG introduced spin early, with Rishabh Pant bringing in Ravi Bishnoi in an attempt to break the stand. However, Prabhsimran was unfazed, taking Bishnoi apart with a 15-run over in the sixth. He continued to dominate, reaching a scintillating half-century in just 27 deliveries. His innings of 69 off 34 balls, laced with elegant strokes and powerful hitting, ensured PBKS remained in control. However, his impressive knock ended when Ayush Badoni and Bishnoi combined for a stunning catch at deep mid-wicket.
Despite the wicket, PBKS never lost their grip on the chase. Impact player Nehal Wadhera joined Iyer at the crease, and the duo accelerated the innings with ease. Wadhera, playing his first match for PBKS, showcased his class, complementing Iyer’s steady approach. Their unbeaten 67-run stand off just 37 balls sealed the chase with 16 balls to spare. Fittingly, Iyer brought up his second consecutive fifty (52) in style, finishing the match with a towering six. Wadhera remained unbeaten on 43, underlining PBKS’ batting depth.

PBKS’ Bowling Excellence
Earlier in the game, Punjab Kings’ decision to bowl first proved to be a masterstroke. Arshdeep Singh struck early, removing Mitchell Marsh in the opening over, setting the tone for PBKS. Lockie Ferguson maintained the pressure with his express pace, restricting LSG’s scoring opportunities. Aiden Markram attempted a counter-attack, hitting a couple of exquisite boundaries off Ferguson, but the pacer had the last laugh, cleaning him up for 28 (18).
With Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant at the crease, PBKS skipper Iyer introduced Glenn Maxwell’s off-spin in a strategic move. The decision paid off instantly as Maxwell dismissed Pant, reducing LSG to 39/3 at the end of the powerplay. Pooran, however, fought back, launching an assault against the PBKS spinners. He smashed Yuzvendra Chahal for 16 runs in the 10th over, but Chahal, known for his knack of picking crucial wickets, outfoxed him with a well-disguised googly, dismissing him for 44 (30).

David Miller and Ayush Badoni tried to rebuild LSG’s innings, but Marco Jansen’s precise bowling got the better of Miller, who edged one behind for 19. Abdul Samad then played a crucial cameo, smashing a monstrous six to announce his arrival. He and Badoni accelerated in the death overs, adding a vital 47-run partnership. Their attacking approach saw Arshdeep concede 20 runs in the 18th over. Badoni’s 41 (33) and Samad’s quickfire 27 (12) lifted LSG to a competitive total of 171/7. Arshdeep, despite being expensive in the latter stages, finished with crucial figures of 3/43, delivering a tight final over to keep LSG in check.
