The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement explaining that one of the floodlight towers at the stadium had malfunctioned following a regional power outage, which led to three towers going dark at around 9:29 PM IST. Despite brief hopes of resumption, the match was called off around 9:40 PM IST, citing the inability to restore the lights safely.

“The Punjab Kings v Delhi Capitals match (Match #58) in Tata IPL was forced to be abandoned due to a significant technical failure,” the IPL stated. “BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees.”

Before the interruption, PBKS had gotten off to a flying start. Opting to bat first after a delayed toss at 8:15 PM IST (instead of the scheduled 7:00 PM), Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh put on a show under the partial lights of Dharamsala.

Match Rescheduling and Upcoming Fixtures

As a precautionary measure, the next PBKS home match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 11 has been shifted to Ahmedabad. Delhi Capitals will face Gujarat Titans (GT) in Delhi on the same day.
