Delhi Capitals Continue Dream Run with 6-Wicket Win Over RCB: KL Rahul’s Masterclass Lights Up Bengaluru

Delhi Capitals are on fire in the TATA IPL 2025, extending their unbeaten streak with a commanding 6-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. For the first time in their IPL history, DC have won four out of four games to kick off a season — and they did it in style, chasing down 164 with 13 balls to spare.

The chase was built around a batting masterclass from KL Rahul, who anchored the innings with a sublime 93* off just 53 balls. After a shaky start, Rahul remained ice-cool under pressure and accelerated at just the right time. He was well supported by Tristan Stubbs, who chipped in with a composed 38* off 23 deliveries as the pair stitched together a match-winning stand.

Early Stutters for DC

The run-chase didn’t begin on a high note for Delhi. RCB’s bowlers, fired up and disciplined, ripped through the top order early. Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck twice with the new ball, removing both Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel — the latter courtesy of an acrobatic grab from Jitesh Sharma, who took two stunners behind the stumps.

Yash Dayal also got into the act, and by the end of the powerplay, Delhi Capitals were tottering at 39/3. A brief partnership between Axar Patel and Rahul looked promising, but Suyash Sharma’s smart leg-spin dismissed Axar for 15, leaving DC at 66/4 at the halfway stage.

Rahul & Stubbs Steer the Ship

From that point on, it was all about composure, timing, and smart batting. KL Rahul took control, maneuvering the field expertly and bringing up his second consecutive half-century. With rain threatening and Delhi behind on the DLS par score, Rahul shifted gears.

In a game-changing moment, he took Josh Hazlewood apart in the 15th over, smashing 22 runs — a flurry that flipped the momentum entirely. Stubbs played the ideal foil, finding the gaps and rotating strike effectively. Rahul sealed the win with a towering six, staying unbeaten on 93, while Stubbs remained not out on 38, as Delhi cruised home with more than two overs to spare.

RCB’s Promising Start Fizzles Out

Earlier, RCB were sent into bat and looked set for a massive score, thanks to Phil Salt‘s electric start. He tore into Mitchell Starc in the third over, hammering 30 runs — the biggest over of the night. The crowd was buzzing as Bengaluru raced to their second-fastest 50 in IPL history.

But momentum shifted quickly. A mix-up between Salt and Virat Kohli led to the former’s run-out for 37, and suddenly, the Capitals were back in it. Mukesh Kumar followed up with a wicket-maiden, dismissing Devdutt Padikkal and drying up the scoring rate.

The turning point came in the middle overs, where Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam spun a web around the RCB middle order. Kuldeep’s 2/17 included the key wickets of Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma, while Vipraj scalped Kohli and Krunal Pandya, finishing with a miserly 2/18.

Late Resistance from Tim David

RCB’s innings was faltering at 119/7, having lost 7 wickets for just 74 runs between the 4th and 18th overs. It was Tim David who provided the late spark, smashing an unbeaten 37 off 20 balls to push RCB to a fighting total of 163/7 — but it was never going to be enough against the calm resolve of KL Rahul and Delhi’s strong finishing.

Final Scorecard Snapshot:

  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 163/7 (Salt 37, David 37* | Kuldeep 2/17, Vipraj 2/18)
  • Delhi Capitals – 167/4 in 17.5 overs (KL Rahul 93*, Stubbs 38*)
  • Result: DC won by 6 wickets
  • Player of the Match: KL Rahul (93* off 53)

With this win, Delhi Capitals have firmly cemented themselves as early title contenders. Their balanced bowling attack, solid middle-order, and KL Rahul’s golden form are coming together at just the right time. As for RCB, the hunt for consistency — and points — continues.
